The goal of this project was to design an object to sit on. I wanted to make a stool that allowed the user to easily get up and move around while working. A stool that made it easy to stand, sit, or any combination of the two. I was inspired by nordic designs and the pacific northwest.

Stool

 Inspiration

I wanted this stool to be a beautiful object as well as a comfortable place to sit.

After several rounds of sketching, I went directly into Fusion 360 to get a better feel for my designs.

Prototyping

After making miniature versions of all of my stool concepts I decided on my final direction. From there, I made a full-scale foam board model to check proportions and scale. A few tweaks later, I began planning out the construction of the stool. After realizing the shape of the seat would take too long to carve by hand I programed a job for the CNC. I used my 3D model to inform the rest of my build, printing out full-scale orthographic drawings from Fusion 360.

The most difficult part about this project was joining the legs and aprons at such weird angles. The complex curves at all of the corners were also difficult and very time-consuming.
