A selection of my most recent replica props.
Rey’s Quarter Staff
I wanted to recreate Rey’s staff from the new Star Wars movies. I started with a PVC pipe base. To add details I 3D modeled and printed pieces that I could not create by hand. The rest of the staff is made from an assortment of EVA foam, polystyrene, various pipe fittings, and fabric scraps.
I wanted the staff to be as accurate as I could make it. It is not quite perfect but it is one of the more accurate replicas that I have seen.
Process
Mjölnir
Thor’s Hammer - the epic weapon for the Norse God of Thunder. This is a replica of Mjölnir as seen in Marvel movies.
I 3D printed this hammer then spent days sanding and filling. With a few layers of paint and a healthy amount of weathering the hammer was finished. I paid close attention to the surface finish, making sure it looked like real metal complete with appropriate oxidation and wear.
Finn’s Sword
The Golden Sword of Battle from the TV show Adventure Time - this is Finn’s go-to sword for most of the cartoon. The show is extremely stylized and very cartoony. I adapted the sword to appear more realistic but with roots in the cartoon version.
I made this sword out of EVA foam. I began by laminating sheets of EVA together with Barge Cement. I then shaped the sword with a variety of sanding tools followed by paint and weathering.
